Humantay Lake Tour Details

A journey to Laguna Humantay Peru is something you should not miss out on while in Peru. Humantay Lagoon, located 4,200 meters (13779 feet) above sea level, is a hidden beautiful glacier lake. It is situated in Cusco, near the Salkantay Mountain range.

The route to Humantay Lake is flanked by stunning Andean scenery. This short hike is ideal for wildlife enthusiasts. Local Andean priests known as shamans also visit Laguna Humantay. They travel to the lagoon to construct little altar stones known as “apachetas.”

Humantay Lagoon was previously visited as part of the 5-day Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu. However, it is now possible to explore Humantay’s natural beauties in just one day.

Be aware that this is a high altitude full day tour. We recommend spending a few days in Cusco to avoid altitude sickness. This will assist your body in acclimating to the Andean environment.

Itinerary

Day 1Humantay Lake

We will pick you up at 4:30 a.m. from your Cusco hotel. Then, in our private vehicle, we will travel to Mollepata town. We’ll be going across the Andes mountains’ winding roads. We’ll stop at Mollepata for breakfast. Then we’ll keep driving to Soraypampa town.

Soraypampa is the beginning point for the Humantay Lake trek. The walk is around 2 kilometers (1.24 miles) long and takes about 1.5 hours to finish. Humantay Lake is a popular tourist destination in Cusco. Its distinctive blue waters provide an ideal backdrop for any photography.

The Humantay Lagoon is situated between the Salkantay and Humantay mountains. These snow-capped summits are revered by the locals as Andean deities, or “Apus.”

When we get to the Humantay lagoon, you will have free time to enjoy the wonderful natural scenery. You’ll also see the countless altar stones, or apachetas, built near the lagoon’s shoreline. Our tour guide will also explain  the history and cultural significance of Humantay Lake to you.

After appreciating the stunning views of the region, we will return to Soraypampa and then to Mollepata. We’ll have a traditional Andean meal once we arrive there. Then we’ll board our private vehicle and head back to Cusco. We will arrive there around 6:30 p.m.
