Cusco Sacred Valley Tour Details

On this full day tour to the Sacred Valley, you will learn about the ancient Inca Empire’s history. You’ll be traversing the breathtaking Andean scenery on your way to the enigmatic archeological sites of Pisac, Ollantaytambo and Chinchero.

The Sacred Valley of the Incas, also known as the Urubamba Valley, is a popular tourist destination in the Cusco region. This valley is dotted with numerous Inca ruins and monuments. Because of its unique geography and weather, this location has been used for hundreds of years to grow crops to feed the Cusco region’s population.

Chinchero is one of the most well-known Inca sites in the Sacred Valley. The beautiful Chinchero church, built on top of an Inca royal palace, can be found in this small colonial village. This church is famous for its delicate mural paintings and religious sculptures.

Ollantaytambo is another popular destination in the Sacred Valley. Ollantaytambo was built during the reign of Inca Pachacutec in the 15th century. It was originally a palace for the Inca nobility, but Manco Inca used it as a fortress during the Spanish conquest of Peru. The famous battle of Ollantaytambo took place near these Inca ruins.

Another great spot to visit in the Sacred Valley is the Pisac ruins. Pisac, like Ollantaytambo, is credited with being built under the rule of Inca Pachacutec. Numerous terraces, small houses, and even an astronomical observatory are part of this archeological complex.

It is highly recommended to visit the Sacred Valley between April and October, during the dry season. The route to the Inca ruins of the Sacred Valley becomes difficult to visit during the rainy season. Furthermore, the mist and rain make it difficult to appreciate the scenery.

Itinerary

Day 1Sacred Valley Tour

Chinchero

At 8:30 a.m., we will take you up from your Cusco hotel in our private vehicle. Then we’ll travel to Chinchero, where you will be given a guided tour of the lovely Chinchero church. Following that, we will explore the neighboring ruins of Tupac Inca Yupanqui’s Royal Palace, one of the Inca Empire’s last monarchs.

Ollantaytambo

Following our visit to Chinchero, we will travel via the Sacred Valley’s winding roads to Ollantaytambo. The long stone staircases of this ancient Inca site are its most famous feature. This Inca site was a palace and temple. However, their gargantuan walls have given Ollantaytambo its nickname of “fortress”.

Urubamba

Following our guided tour of Ollantaytambo, we will enjoy a buffet lunch in the charming town of Urubamba. Urubamba is located in the Sacred Valley’s lowest region, hence the weather is warmer than in the rest of the valley.

Pisac

After lunch, we will drive to the charming village of Pisac and its famous archaeological site. Like Ollantaytambo, Pisac was an Inca temple and royal residence of the Inca rulers. We will explore the main Inca sites, such as the Inca villages, the astronomical observatory, and the royal houses.

Finally, we will return to Cusco city in our private vehicle. We will be arriving in Cusco around 6:00 p.m.
